Sahrudaya Services and Charities is a legally registered Society in the district of Ernakulam, Kerala, India, in the year 1979 (Regn. No. 205/1979). CMI (Carmelites of Mary Immaculate) S.H. Province, Rajagiri, Kochi is the founder of Sahrudaya. Most of its running funds are contributed by each and every CMI Monastery of this province by way of tithing.
Sahrudaya’s motto,”Uniting Hearts for Empowerment and Development”, is quite realistic and relevant today. In response to the contemporary socio-political realities, Sahrudaya mobilizes and organizes grass roots level organizations by way of awareness building, joining in peoples’ struggles for justice and human rights, environmental protection and paying special attention to human resource building. Empowerment and economic development go hand in hand in Sahrudaya. Sahrudaya is actively involving in Community Based Organizations such as women’s SHGs, SHGs of Differently able, Student sponsorship, Anganawadi, Senior Citizens’ Forums, Eco-friendly life style and Campaign, Physically/Mentally Challenged persons’ integral development etc..
All the Projects and Programs of Sahrudaya flow from the philosophy that social action must empower people, especially at grass roots level, making them aware of their rights and strengthen their resolve to obtain their legitimate rights. Sahrudaya believes when people are so empowered, there will be less corruption and good governance.
